MASTMA Supports Career Development - Member Spotlight!

The following was shared by MASTMA Board Member, Don Follett, Head Groundskeeper/Sr. Director of Fields & Grounds, Baltimore Ravens

Matt Cavrak was working at the Turf Valley Resort where he attended the Maryland Turf Grass Council (MTC) Conference and Tradeshow last December. He was soon to graduate from high school and looking for a career track that would be of interest to him. At MTC, he met MASTMA Board Member, Nicole Sherry and she suggested he consider a career in grounds maintenance and that the Maryland Sports Turf Managers Association (MASTMA) would be a good place to start. As a member of MASTMA, Matt would have the opportunity to network with other members and get a good career going... So, he joined MASTMA and attended the Spring Education Event in March at the Ravens Under Armor Performance Center. While at that event, he spoke with one of my assistants about getting his foot in the door. It just so happened that we were in the market for a summer intern. Matt has been working with us (the Baltimore Ravens) this summer and has enjoyed the work so much that he has decided to peruse a degree in Turf Grass Science from Rutgers University this fall. Matt has been a great asset to the Ravens, and we wish him good luck with his career - he wants to explore getting a job at the High School or College level.

MASTMA has a good many of High School and College Sports Turf Manager members… please keep Matt in mind for future opportunties. Way to go, Matt!
