Recap from UMD Turfgrass Research Field Day by Dr. Roberts

    Greetings Everyone,

I hope that this message finds you well and hopefully in a cool place amidst the summer heat that we are currently enduring in our region.  Here we are nearly a week past the UMD Turfgrass Research Field Day and I wanted to send out an email to recap the event and express my sincere gratitude for your support of the event.  While the forecast for last week’s event was a bit tough, the day ended up being very successful with a fair amount of cloud cover and no precipitation.  While it was hot, we lucked out that day and I was pleased with the overall attendance of the event.  We had nearly 130 pre-registered and counts around 170 attendees for the day of the event.

In addition to the recertification credits offered, the format was slightly altered this year in hopes of breaking the large group into 2 smaller crowds that were alternated each half hour.  I was very pleased that the format allowed for a more in-depth look at the research plots for attendees.  The afternoon was full of education for all attendees offering a variety of studies for lawn and landscape, golf, and sports turf.  Like every other year, the food and beverage selection following the tour was top notch and I thoroughly enjoyed sharing a meal and conversation with attendees from the state and surrounding region.

In speaking for myself and on behalf of the turf research program here at UMD, I wanted to thank you all for your efforts and support of the field day program.  Without it, the day would not have been possible.  The support and attendance of the event speaks volumes for the turfgrass industry in our state and I am happy to be a part of it.  So many thanks to everyone for another successful event.

As with this event and all others, I welcome your feedback on the day.  We are always looking to improve our education offerings and if you have any ideas that you feel would improve the event, please do not hesitate to contact me.  I look forward to continuing our efforts to broadcast the great turfgrass research here at UMD.

     Kind regards,

     Joseph
